Outlander Odyssey

About

Dear reader,

My name is Lorina and the Outlander Odyssey is the product that addresses the struggles I have had during my studies. Throughout my undergraduate and post graduate degrees I had always voiced my ambition to stay in academia. The thought of publishing articles, researching, learning throughout my career was always my goal. However, I received little to no guidance on what building blocks I will need to get there and how I can put those building blocks into place. During the time I was unemployed after graduating, a friend of mine suggested writing articles and selling them. I started to look into article writing and publishing and came to quickly realise that I lacked a key component for the success of that endeavour. This was contacts and connections. Unfortunately, without those, it is seldom possible to get your foot in the door and therefore when you come to your PhD application, and you are asked about your publications and you have nothing to show for it – you’ll find that you have been the only one who not only wasn’t invited to the ‘party’, but didn’t even know there was one. So, during this research period I found a couple of gaps in the market that I hope this website to fill. Do they teach you how to actually write a good CV? What does a good cover letter look like? Where do I even start looking for an internship, and how can I publish an article without contacts? If you ever find yourself asking these question and think that the monotonous regurgitating way we are taught in university doesn’t actually prepare you for life after graduating, maybe this website is for you!

If you would like more information of the formalities of how this website came to be and the struggles I have faced, check out the YouTube video where I get interviewed by my friend and esteemed colleague Joanna Plaskonka.
